Interview with author Doug Worgul
In a previous column, I asked author Doug Worgul why he didn’t write the sequel to one of my favorite novels, “Thin Blue Smoke,” sooner. He said:
“After I finished ‘Thin Blue Smoke,’ I felt satisfied, at the time, that I had completed that story. My career also took a major direction and I didn’t actually write much for a time. When I eventually sat down to write again, I was eager to pursue a couple of new stories that had been I had been mulling, but after a few false starts I realized those stories were not getting any traction.
I took a year off to think, play guitar, and let my mind empty. A period of discernment. It was after that time that I began to understand that I had, in fact, not finished the ‘Thin Blue Smoke’ story and that there was more to tell.”
Well, now he has! I sat down with Doug to get all the tea, as they say.
In this engaging interview, author Doug Worgul discusses his journey from journalism to fiction, the inspiration behind his books ‘Thin Blue Smoke’ and ‘The Night Office,’ and the deep themes of faith, community, and redemption woven into his stories. Discover how Kansas City’s culture and personal experiences shape his compelling characters and narratives.
