Writing is writing, right?
Whether novel or podcast scripts, it's still storytelling
As a writer, the call to express ourselves through words never truly stops, but sometimes it takes different forms. Recently, I’ve found myself stepping away from my novel, Trial of the Heart, to focus on my podcast, Positively Joy. This shift has been both intentional and necessary as we pivot the podcast toward a new focus: finding joy after relationships—whether that's marriage, separation, or divorce.
It’s a topic that’s deeply personal for me, and one that I feel compelled to explore and share with others. There’s something powerful about recognizing that joy is possible even in the midst of heartache and brokenness. It’s a journey I walked, and my hope is to encourage others who find themselves on similar paths.
Interestingly, the process of writing for my podcast has been just as creative and fulfilling as working on my novel. In Trial of the Heart, I’m weaving together a fictional tale of love, pain, and redemption. Meanwhile, on the podcast, I’m sharing real-life experiences and insights that I’ve gained through my own challenges and faith journey. Whether I’m scripting an episode or drafting a chapter, both require the same level of vulnerability and reflection.
It’s a reminder that writing—whether it’s for a novel or a podcast—is still writing. It’s storytelling at its core, regardless of the format. Both serve as outlets to connect with others, to reflect on our emotions, and to find meaning in our experiences. The focus may shift from fiction to real life, but the heart of the work remains the same: helping others find hope and joy, no matter what they’re going through.
I know that the words will continue to flow, whether through the pages of my book or the episodes of my podcast. After all, writing is writing, right?
